October 03 When Big said “Fuck, I’m in love”This is one of the scenes in Sex and the City: In a decent restaurant, a common Friday night, Mr. Big was telling Carrie how much he was into a Hollywood movie star he had been dating in the past few weeks. He said and said, with his eyes shining, didn’t even care about Carrie’s reluctant face, clearly showing I-don’t-wanna-hear-that signs. And then he paused for like three seconds, murmured something nobody could even hear. He said, “Fuck, I’m in love”, with a face of I-need-help, more exactly, a face of get-me-out-of-it.
Normally people pause, then saying dirty words, when something really bad is happening. Bunch of examples, “….fuck, I forgot the key when I left my apartment”, “…..shit, how the hell am I supposed to know there is gonna be a quiz today, I haven’t been showing up in this class for months.”, “….fuck, my girlfriend broke up with me. I’m gonna end up with dying alone.”
But, Big, who is obviously an exception, said this four-letter word, with a pathetic expression, when he felt he’s fallen in love. Why did this happen? Simply to say, he’s afraid, scared, and even panic of the feeling that his heart might, by any chance, be trapped by the woman he barely knew, who is apparently an experienced hunter. This never happened to him before since he’s never put himself in the weak side in the game of love. How the hell is he supposed to know that maybe it is his turn to worry about all the stupid things like, why didn’t she call, how did she feel, did I screw it up with the bad jokes or was there any tiny chances that she thought it’s funny…..?
All the unexpected stuff keeps haunting in Big’s mind, which makes his life messed up. After repeating the sentence of “She can reach me, but I can’t reach her” for thousands of thousands of times to Carrie, Aidan, and whoever unfortunately happens to be his friends and wish they never met him in their whole life, he finally realized that she would come to him only when she needed a man, and would dispose him immediately when all the passion magically vanished. Big should never blame her cause from the beginning to the end, it was all him who did not get point that he was just not the one for her, more accurately, she just needed a part-time lover and it could be anyone who is good on bed.
Big used to think they should be competent in this dangerous game with a beautiful name of “L O V E”. Tragically, it turned out to be overwhelmingly wrong when he hadn’t been hearing from her after their one-night passion. Probably here is the theory: whoever feels his/her heart is caged in this game first is doomed to deserve all the emotional up-and-down.
And that’s, I believe, why exactly Big said “Fuck, I’m in love”. Sorry, Big, but this is how it works.
Life is too short to waste time in guessing, waiting, doing drama, and then pretending you don’t give a damn. In my dictionary, relationship is defined as: skip the drama, keep it simple and enjoy what we are having right now.
